To generate the visuals for this project, I decided to use a cymatic plate and observed the reactions on the plate from playing specific frequencies. A cymatic plate, also known as the Chladni plate, has been used since the late 1700’s to observe and study sound in its physical form. It is a metallic vibrating plate that resonates at a broad range of frequencies. When you scatter powder on the plate, it moves the grains into the shape of the sin-wave associated with that frequency. Older variations of the plate use a string-instrument bow to create sounds by rubbing it against the side.

I decided to apply the 7 Solfeggio frequencies to this process and then created the visuals that came from it. On this page, you can see the original videos that I based the animations on, and get a taste for what working with a cymatic plate can look like.
